From Dr. McDermott:
Developmental Screenings
Batavia Public School EC Program offers free developmental screenings for children birth to 5 years of age. This 2 step process starts with a paper screening that looks at the developmental areas of Communication, Gross and Fine Motor, Problem Solving, Personal-Social and Social Emotional. If there are any areas of concern, an in person screening will be scheduled with a team of District Educators and Specialists for a more in depth assessment of skills in the developmental areas. If you would like to start the process for screening, please contact Cindy Rodriguez at the Early Childhood Center at 630-937-8000. You can also find additional information using this link Early Childhood Screening
Building Our Future Together Update
The Building Our Future Together Core Team has made great strides in the master planning process for our educational facilities. The Core Team is using information compiled from two years’ worth of input and data gathering about our educational programming and facilities. The facility needs are vast, and the Core Team will present a manageable long-term plan that addresses the greatest number of needs. The team is currently reviewing all options such as renovations, new construction, additions, and boundary adjustments. The resulting options will be presented to the community during the April, and the Core Team is requesting your participation in the process. More details will be shared next month about how you can review the Team’s recommendations and provide feedback that the Team will use in determining their final recommendations. Visit the BPS101 Building Our Future Together website for more information.
Batavia Foundation Grants for 2020-21
This past fall, the BFEE board approved the expenditure of $21,000 for teacher grants. They wanted schools, including Batavia’s Virtual Academy, to have immediate access to these funds in order to enhance hybrid and remote learning. BFEE is pleased to announce that these funds were put to great use! They put together an infographic to highlight how the funds were utilized across all schools. The staff was greatly appreciative for the generous donations, and some of the feedback can be found on the BFEE website.

Updated Emergency Operations Terminology
There has been an update to the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that is used Districtwide in an emergency. The EOP dictates how each emergency situation is handled within our buildings or within the surrounding community. There have been some minor adjustments to the plan including a renaming of one of the emergency terms. “LOCKOUT” has been changed to “SECURE”. We have created a short video to explain each of the emergency action terms within the plan. Please watch it to familiarize yourself with the actions to help prepare you for an emergency.
